Gleaves Whitney

Gleaves Whitney is the Director (since 2003) of the The Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Michigan. He also serves as a Senior Fellow of the Kirk Center. Gleaves first came to a seminar at Piety Hill in the 1980s while he was a graduate student at the University of Michigan. He was well read, well spoken, and well liked. A native Texan, he rose to prominence in Michigan, serving in the cabinet of Governor John Engler where he worked 11 years as a senior writer, Governor Engler’s chief speechwriter, and historian.

This 2001 interview is divided into three segments and runs a total of 45 minutes. The last segment is a worthy reminder of the need to support The Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal.
