Using the Lausanne Movement Resources Disk
This Lausanne Resource Disk contains selected historical documents (e.g., Lausanne Covenant, Manila Manifesto, Occasional Papers, and so on.) and media presentation files in multiple formats. These materials present and preserve the heritage of the Lausanne Movement for succeeding generations of Christians. Use the materials to develop a study unit of 5-10 weeks or to simply provide an overview to interested audiences (30-60 minutes). The resources on this disk can also be used by researchers writing on the history of the Lausanne Movement. Email info@lausanne.com if you have questions. |
- PowerPoint presentations (files ending with .ppt) for use as lecture outlines and/or handouts for your group.
- Word documents (files ending with .doc)
- Adobe Acrobat files (files ending with .pdf) for handouts or for background reading. To view or print an Adobe Acrobat file, you need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
- MP3 audio files (files ending with .mp3). These files will play in Windows Media Player, iTunes, among others.
- The Lausanne Movement Introductory Video (Lausanne_Movement_Intro.wmv). Use software that can play .wmv files (e.g., Windows Media Player).
For a list and brief description of all materials on the Disk go to the Contents Section.
Resources for an Overview Presentation of the Lausanne Movement
The historical overview of the Lausanne Movement (Lausanne Overview.ppt) covers the period from the World Congress on Evangelism (Berlin 1966) to the 2004 World Forum (Thailand 2004). The content can be used to present information about Lausanne followed by discussion of key themes. Customize the material to your context: change the order of the slides, delete or hide slides, add more slides (e.g., questions for discussion, a case description of a contemporary event or issue that is similar to something in the Lausanne presentation), and so on.
Use these additional files to supplement the presentation:
- See the Overheads Section: Access Lausanne Overview Overheads.pdf This file contains one slide per page to burn on a transparency.
- See the Handouts Section: Access Lausanne Overview Handouts.pdf This contains two slides per page to print as handouts.
- See the Media Files Section: Access Lausanne Movement Intro.wmv This file is an eleven minute video introduction to the Lausanne Movement with a focus on Lausanne 1974 and the 2004 World Forum in Thailand. You will need Windows Media Player or any video program that can play .wmv files to view it. Use to capture audience interest at the beginning of your presentation, or as a summary to remind viewers of key issues.
See Contents Section for additional files to supplement your presentation or to assist you in preparation of a learning experience (e.g., case study, simulation, discussion, lecture, and so on).
Resources for a Longer Presentation
Resources identified in this section can be used to supplement an existing course (e.g., Introduction to Missions) or as the content for a 1-2 credit hour course elective on the Lausanne Movement. Resources include the following:
1. Three PowerPoint presentations of the history of the Lausanne Movement. (As with the Lausanne Overview.ppt document, Adobe Acrobat versions of these files are available for use as handouts or in preparing overhead transparencies.
These three presentations expand on the material in Lausanne Overview.ppt by adding material on the numerous smaller consultations and conferences, and additional evaluative thoughts on the major congresses and Lausanne as a whole.
2. Media Files (mostly sermons or other addresses from the Lausanne 1974 Congress) can be used to illustrate the people and issues the Lausanne Movement faced in the Berlin 1966 and Lausanne 1974 Congresses. (If you copy these files to your own computer, transfer them all in the same folder or they will not play from the PowerPoint slide show properly.
To use PowerPoint, rather than Windows Media Player for example, to play the sermon or video, put the PowerPoint in “Slide Show” mode, find the slide of the message you want, and click on the picture to play the sermon/video. If you only want to use one or two messages, you can copy any slide with the media presentation embedded in it and insert it into one of the other shows to supplement your presentation. Unless you understand how PowerPoint works with sound files, however, the best method might be to simply play the message from the actual media file itself rather than through PowerPoint. The sermon files are described in the Contents Section.
3. Adobe Acrobat files can be used to supplement learning activities or lectures. They include all of the Lausanne Occasional Papers in print. For example, print out the file or distribute it electronically to your class to read before discussing the issues it presents, or analyzing a case study, or preparing a short drama, and so on.
Note: Every PowerPoint file has an Acrobat version that you can print for your own use or as handouts. The Handouts Section contains files for printing; the Overheads Section contains the same files for overhead transparencies.
